Coaches Panel Announced for the 2024 National Women’s U18 Championship in Quispamsis
Quispamsis, NB – As the excitement builds for the 2024 National Women’s U18 Championship, Hockey New Brunswick is proud to announce an esteemed lineup of speakers for the Coaches Panel, set to take place during the tournament in Quispamsis, New Brunswick. Featuring four highly respected professionals in the world of hockey, the panel will focus on key aspects of coaching, player development, and mental performance. Each speaker will bring their unique expertise to help further the growth of women’s hockey in Canada.
The Coach Seminar will be taking place on Sunday, November 3rd from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the qplex in Quispamsis, NB. The seminar is FREE to attend, participants will receive a voucher for 2 tickets to a preliminary or quarterfinal game, coaching resources and an HNB / Hockey Canada gift.
The Coach Seminar is open to all Minor and Female Hockey coaches, volunteers, administrators and parents.

Presentation: Player Development / High Performance Pathway
Cherie Piper, Senior Manager of Scouting and Player Development at Hockey Canada, will share her knowledge on the player development and the high-performance pathway. Piper’s incredible playing career includes representing Canada on the international stage as a three-time Olympic gold medalist. After transitioning to a leadership role at Hockey Canada, Piper has played a vital role in shaping the future of women’s hockey in Canada through her scouting and player development expertise. Her presentation will focus on guiding athletes from the grassroots level to the national stage, emphasizing the key steps and resources that can help young players reach their full potential.
Presentation: Practice Planning
Sarah Hilworth, head coach of the University of New Brunswick (UNB) REDS women’s hockey team, will lead a presentation on effective hockey practice planning. As she enters her eighth season as head coach, Hilworth has guided the REDS to three consecutive Atlantic University Sport (AUS) championships and national championship appearances. During the 2022-23 season, her team posted a stellar 23-2-1-2 record, along with a strong playoff performance.
Hilworth’s coaching and playing career extends beyond UNB, having served as an assistant coach for Canada’s women’s hockey team at the 2023 FISU World Winter University Games, where the team claimed gold. Recognized as AUS Coach of the Year in 2022 and awarded the prestigious BFL High Performance Female Coach of the Year, Hilworth’s dedication to player development is well-known. She is passionate about creating opportunities for female athletes and currently serves as Development Director for the Central Female Hockey Association (CFHA).
Presentation: Mental Performance in Hockey
Dr. Ashley Duguay, a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC), will offer her insights on mental performance in hockey and the role of the coach in fostering a psychologically informed environment. With a PhD in Kinesiology (focus: sport psychology) from the University of Windsor, Duguay seeks to facilitate the development of mental skills, attitudes, qualities, processes, and perspectives to enhance her clients' (e.g., athletes, teams, coaches, sport organizations) mental performance. Duguay is a trained Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement (MSPE) instructor and her approach centers on helping athletes and coaches build mental flexibility. She is a professional member and Co-Chair of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA).
Presentation: Goaltending Development
Katie Greenway, Manager of Women and Girls Hockey at Hockey Canada, will deliver a presentation on goaltending development, offering insights from her extensive background in coaching and goaltending. Greenway is a certified High Performance 1 and Goaltending Level 3 coach with over 12 years of experience coaching goaltenders of all levels from U9 to Professional. Currently, Greenway coaches with the University of Guelph Gryphons (U SPORTS) and also serves as the goaltending coach for the National Women’s Development Team.
Greenway has dedicated her career to advancing women’s and girls’ hockey, focusing on building programs that support athletes at all levels. Her expertise and leadership have been instrumental in growing the game across the country.
