HNB Delta Fortis Properties Scholarship Recipient
Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to award the 2020-21 Delta Fortis Scholarship to Gregor Small of Saint John, N.B.
The Delta Fortis Scholarship, valued at $1,000, was established in 2003 to recognized a Grade 12 student who has had hockey play a positive role in their life.
Gregor is a Grade 12 student at St. Malachy’s Memorial High School in Saint John. Hockey has been an integral part of his life since the age of three, when he first learned to play on his family’s homemade backyard rink. He played on teams throughout the Saint John Minor Hockey Association, EDZA South, and has played for three years at St. Malachy’s.
In addition to his closely knit group of friends, hockey has taught Gregor crucial transferrable skills, including respect, attentive listening, how to take and give feedback, and the importance of being a team player. His skills development translated into leadership roles and Gregor served as an assistant captain on several teams.
Community involvement is important to Gregor and he has both participated in and independently organized a variety of projects and programs. His hockey teams have sponsored families at Christmas, volunteered at a local soup kitchen and collected toys for the Salvation Army Toy Drive. Gregor has organized a food drive for Saint John’s North End Food Bank and became a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters initiative. He recognizes the importance of giving back and how one person can make a big difference.
Gregor will be attending St. Francis Xavier University in the fall to pursue his bachelor of science in human kinetics.
Congratulations to Gregor on his achievements.
