Eight members of the Saturn of Fredericton Red Rebels have been chosen to take part in the New Brunswick Female Midget AAA Hockey League's all-star game and skills competition. Alysha Manderson of the Saturn of Fredericton Red Rebels is one of eight Rebels chosen to take part in the New Brunswick female midget AAA all-star game and skills competition to be held April 4 at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink. The events are scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink. The skills competition goes from 2:15-3:15 p.m., with the all-star contest from 5-8 p.m. Representing the Red Rebels up front will be Berni Williams and Sam Bujold of Fredericton, Allison Dolan of Woodstock and Taylor Dale of Oromocto. Defenders include Stephanie Roach of Perth-Andover, Jenna Scott of Hanwell and Tonya Ellis of Fredericton. Red Rebels' netminder Alysha Manderson is also part of the team. The eight Rebels and top players representing each of the other three provincial teams have been divided on two teams, coached by a pair of women's university head coaches: Peter Murphy of the St. Thomas Tommies and Denis Ross of the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues. The head coaches of the four midget AAA teams in the province will be on the benches as assistant coaches. Jamie Waycott of the Rinkside Fundy Blues and Gary Wood of the Northern Stars will assist Murphy while Laura Barr of the Red Rebels and Steve Bowes of the Moncton Ricoh Rockets will assist Ross. "It's going to be fun but good hockey," said league president Sheila Lyons of Fredericton. "All the players who were selected worked hard and did really well for their respective teams. This is a good venue to showcase their talents, have some different coaching and play with players they haven't played with for a long time - if ever. "I think the players are really going to enjoy it," Lyons said, noting a draft was held to form the two teams. Manderson, Ellis, Williams and Dale will play on Team Murphy, while Roach, Scott, Dolan and Bujold are on Team Ross. Also on Team Murphy are goaltender Emily Blakely, defenders Jodie Dupere and Jodi Hachey and forwards Julie Breau, Susie Larocque, Karine Roy and Christina Kelly from the Northern Stars; blueliner Jillian Hunt and forwards Darla Frizzell and Natalie Cormier from the Ricoh Rockets; and defenders Naomi Richardson and Katie Haslett and forward Marlee Mousek from the Fundy Blues. Team Ross all-stars also include netminder Kristy Dobson and forwards Kim Deschenes and Alyssa Sherrard from the Stars; goalie Karley Estabrooks, defenders Monika Cormier, Natalie Cormier and Josee Legere and forwards Becky Bowes, Gabrielle Poirier, Janika Robichaud and Katherine Richard from the Rockets; and blueliner Jessica McCann and forward Sarah Waycott from the Blues. |
