Hockey New Brunswick is pleased to announce Derek Green as the HNB Coach of the Month for January. Derek is the Head Coach of the Atom AA Blues of the Riverview Minor Hockey Association. Derek has been coaching hockey, soccer, football, and lacrosse for over 20 years.
“Derek is a great asset to Riverview Minor Hockey” says RMHA president Lee MacWilliams. “It's fun to watch him praise each and every kid during the game on the bench and after the game as each and every one comes out of the dressing room. Win, lose, or draw, these kids are believing in themselves, each other, and are proud about the hard work they are putting into becoming a better team.”
Derek enjoys the challenge of coaching. The concept of continually learning and adapting is one the appeals to coaching minor hockey. “Coaching also offers each of us the opportunity to embark on lifelong learning.” Derek said in a statement to Hockey NB. “I feel that as coaches, we need to continue to keep pace with our changing game, evolving techniques/skill development and of course our changing youth. They are growing up in a different world than we did and as coaches, we must learn to communicate with them effectively and ensure that we remain relevant.”
Derek will receive a Bauer Coaches bag, a 1-year subscription to the Hockey Canada Network, and an apparel package from Hockey NB.
