Fredericton, NB - Two hundred and forty three male and female hockey players in five divisions have been invited to participate in the Hockey New Brunswick Development Festival beginning July 25th. The camps will run over three weeks in Fredericton, on the University of New Brunswick campus.
On the male side, eighty-one players will be attending the Under-14 camp, along with forty in the Under-15 division and forty-two at the Under-16 camp. Females will have forty at each of their Under-15 and Under-17 camps.
From the players invited, twenty players will be selected in the Male Under-14, Male Under-15, Female Under-15 and Female Under-17 divisions to compete against the other Atlantic branches at the Atlantic Challenge Cup, held in Moncton on Thanksgiving weekend. The Male Under-16 players will continue to be evaluated during the first half of their season. They will then attend the QMJHL Excellence Challenge in May of 2014, where they’ll face off against teams from the other Atlantic branches and two teams from Quebec.
Each of the summer camps will feature inter-squad games each evening, as well as daily practices, fitness testing, and presentations from guest speakers on topics including fitness, mental preparation and nutrition.
Some notable alumni that have participated in the HNB High Performance Program, and went on to play for Team Canada include Sarah MacDonnell, Nathan Beaulieu, Sean Couturier, Jake Allen, Patrice Cormier and Luc Bourdon.
